Summary
The most frequently detected Mitochondrial antibody which is of greatest clinical utility is M 2 antibody. Mitochondrial M2 antibodies have been detected in patients with Primary Biliary cirrhosis (96%) and occasionally in other Chronic liver diseases and Systemic sclerosis. These antibodies are also detected in asymptomatic patients who later go on to develop Primary Biliary cirrhosis.
