Human infection with the larval stage of pork tapeworm Taenia solium is found worldwide and occurs following the unintentional ingestion of the eggs of adult tapeworm. The eggs may be ingested with contaminated food or water and disseminate to different sites in the body. Seizures are a common complication in endemic areas and often the presenting symptom. Serological tests for Cysticercosis are sensitive and specific but do not distinguish between active and inactive infections.
