Clostridium difficle is a toxin producing spore forming anaerobic gram positive bacillus responsible for 20-30% of antibiotic associated diarrhea and 90% of Pseudomembraneous colitis. A low incidence of community acquired cases have also been reported.This bacillus is found in 3-5% of healthy adults and upto 50% infants and young children who asymptomatically carry both the bacteria and its toxins.
