Hepatitis Be Antigen (HBeAg) appears in the early phase of HBV infection and correlates with infectivity. It also determines the infection status in chronically infected HBV patients. Appearance of Hepatitis Be antibody (Anti-HBe) indicates resolution of infection and maybe detectable for several years even after patients recovery from HBV infection. In HBV carriers positive Anti-HBe result indicates inactivity of the virus and low infectivity of the patients. Positive Anti HBe in the presence of detectable HBV DNA indicates active viral replication and progression of liver disease in a carrier.
