Summary
HLA-B27 is a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class 1 molecule which is considered to be an important criteria for classification of Axial spondyloarthropathies and helps in establishing an early diagnosis of Ankylosingspondyloarthropathies before the development of irreversible deformity. In 2009, the Assessment of Spondyoarthritis International Society (ASAS) proposed new criteria for classification of Axial spondyloarthritis which are applicable to individuals with back pain > 3 months and age of onset < 45 years. One important criteria is the presence of HLA-B27.
