Summary
Free E3 levels are used for screening Down syndrome, Trisomy 18 & monitoring the output of fetoplacental unit. It increases progressively during pregnancy and shows a surge in levels during 35- 36 weeks of gestation. A decrease in serum concentration in 2 or more successive measurements suggests possibility of fetal distress
